Build America, Buy America
Build America, Buy America is the domestic-content preference in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. It matters when a project spends federal infrastructure money, including some broadband awards such as BEAD, and the award says domestic content applies.
Why it shows up on a materials list
Iron, steel, manufactured products, and construction materials on a covered project generally have to be produced in the United States, unless a waiver applies. The funding agency defines what that means for the award. A distributor catalog does not.
How Rivers Connect helps
- Sourcing materials when the project asks for BABA-compliant product.
- Requesting manufacturer certification letters and related documentation.
- Looking at an alternate when the specified item does not meet the requirement.
This is the same support described on Services. It is available when you ask for it. It is not automatic on every order.
Questions
- What is Build America, Buy America?
- Build America, Buy America (BABA) is a domestic-content preference in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. For many federally funded infrastructure projects it covers iron, steel, manufactured products, and construction materials. Waivers exist, and the details belong to the agency that funds the work.
- Does this apply to BEAD broadband projects?
- BEAD is a federal broadband program, so BABA can come up. Whether it applies to a specific award depends on that award and the agency administering it. Rivers Connect does not make that call.
- What can Rivers Connect do?
- When a project requires it, we can source materials the manufacturer presents as BABA-compliant, request certification letters, and look at an alternate if a specified item does not meet the requirement.
- Will you certify our project?
- No. Manufacturer documentation and the funding agency's rules control. Confirm the requirement with the agency before you treat a product as compliant.
- Is every catalog item BABA-compliant?
- No. A listing means we can talk about sourcing it. Compliance is checked for the project. It is not assumed from the catalog.
Tell us the project needs BABA documentation when you send the list. Call (817) 764-5590 if you want to talk first.
